Frequently Asked Questions – Rangefinders & GPS Devices

What’s the difference between a laser rangefinder and a GPS device?

  • Laser rangefinders use a laser beam to measure exact distances to the flag or specific targets.

  • GPS devices use satellite data to give distances to the front, middle, and back of the green, plus hazards—great for fast, glance-and-go use.

Which one is more accurate?

Laser rangefinders are generally more precise for flag distances (often within 1 yard). GPS devices are highly convenient and accurate enough for most golfers—especially on unfamiliar courses.

Are your devices tournament legal?

Most of the rangefinders and GPS units we stock are competition-friendly, but some may have features (like slope adjustment) that must be turned off in tournament play. Check the product details for R&A compliance.

Do your rangefinders include slope mode?

Some models include slope mode for adjusted distances on uphill/downhill shots. Product descriptions will confirm whether this is a feature and if it’s tournament-disable.

Do GPS devices require a subscription?

Most of the GPS units we sell come with no ongoing fees. If a device requires a subscription for premium features, we’ll make that clear on the product page.

What kind of battery do these devices use?

  • Rangefinders typically use replaceable AA or similar batteries.

  • GPS devices usually have a rechargeable battery via USB. Battery type and lifespan are shown in the product specs.

Can these devices be used on any course?

Yes—GPS devices are preloaded with thousands of global courses, and rangefinders work anywhere with a line of sight. You’re covered wherever you play.
