Experience Winter Golf at the UK's Top Courses
The cold winter months don't have to mean packing your clubs away. Many excellent golf courses in the UK remain open and playable year-round. The following courses offer stunning scenery and challenging play even when the temperatures dip.
Royal Dornoch Golf Club - Scotland
Widely regarded as one of the world's finest links golf courses, Royal Dornoch is a magical place to play in any season. The scenic seaside holes take full advantage of the dramatic Dornoch Firth coastline. The winter months bring fewer crowds, lower fees, and the chance to master Royal Dornoch's speedy greens and undulating fairways in cool, windy conditions. Just bundle up!
Swinley Forest Golf Club - England
This private club in Ascot is a tree-lined parkland course with spectacular Fall colors. Blanketed with golden leaves and often capped with frost, Swinley Forest is arguably at its best visually during the winter months. The layout is no pushover either, with narrow tree-lined fairways demanding accuracy. Play here in winter to see one of England's most beautiful inland courses at its finest.
Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club - Wales
P&K is an under-the-radar links course set on the scenic South Wales coastline. Its out-and-back routing along the beach ensures half your holes have sea views. The course plays firm and fast in winter, just as links golf is meant to be. Pyle & Kenfig is also more accessible in winter, when green fees are around half the summer rate.
Castlerock Golf Club - Northern Ireland
Castlerock overlooks the Atlantic Ocean on Northern Ireland's scenic Causeway Coast. The Mussenden and Downhill courses feature coastal scenery, elevation changes, green complexes guarded by cavernous bunkers, and ever-present wind. While the weather may be raw in winter, you'll have these fantastic links nearly to yourself. It's a peaceful place to take in the ocean vistas between shots.
